This special evening which raised approximately $4 Million Dollars featured a Silent auction and live auction led by C. Hugh Hildesley, Sotheby's; Musical performance by John Fogerty which was the highlight of the evening. Ann Dexter Jones and friends were perched at the front of the stage rocking with John Fogerty. Additional performances by Bill Evans Soul Grass and NYC Pop band Knockout Drops. Sinai Medical Center in New York City is quickly changing the way the world looks at and treats cancer with their revolutionary idea of working together across laboratories and even oceans in their "Institute Without Walls." NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases: "2006 Founders Gala" : NEW YORK-NOVEMBER 6:  NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases: "2006 Founders Gala"  on Monday, November 6, 2006, @6:30 PM, Grand Ballroom of The Waldorf-Astoria,  New York City, NY.  The NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases: "2006 Founders Gala" was a star studded Black Tie gala celebrating the conclusion of the hospital's centennial year and was hosted by WNBC's Dr. Max Gomez and Chairman of the Board Robin L. Smith, MD, MBA. The evening paid tribute to (i) Vice Chairman of Lehman Brothers Inc. Frederick Frank who received the Industry Leader Award, (ii) World renowned spine surgeon Dr. Thierry Marnay and (iii) Jim MacLaren who was honored with the Hospital's prestigious Humanitarian Award for his courage and triumph to overcome physical obstacles and barriers that dramatically affected and changed his life.  After a special presentation highlighting the unfortunate circumstances which led to Mr. MacLaren's paraplegic condition,  Jim MacLaren was honored for his courage and triumph to overcome physical obstacles and barriers that dramatically affected and changed his life.  After graduating Yale College as a star football player, Jim embarked on a career in acting.  On his way to the NYU film school, he was hit by a New York City bus and lost his leg.  He became a marathon runner and world-class triathelete beating times of those individuals who had two legs.  Several years later, during one of his races, a grill from a van hit his bike; he flew over the handrails and hit a light post, rendering him a quadriplegic.  Now a motivational speaker, Jim MacLaren’s humanitarian work has been recognized by Bob Costas, Oprah Winfrey, the Arthur Ashe Foundation, and virtually every major media outlet in the country. Accepting the award for Jim MacLaren was his former football coach at YALE, Carm Cozza.  The Awards were followed with a musical performance by the legendary Art Garfunkel (see Art Garfunkel's Wikipedia listing) who was joined by his son James Garfunkel for a song. GUESTS included Vanessa Trump, Michael Gardner, Joel Smilow (see: NYU's Smilow Research Center), Former Yale Football Coach Carm Cozza, Cynthia Tsai, Douglas Ingram, Anthony Viscogliosi, Norma and Gordon H. Smith among others. Proceeds from the gala will be used to build an inpatient hospital wing for children and further advance research in cancer and musculoskeletal fields. American Friends of Rabin Medical Center (AFRMC) Gala Dinner : Sunday, November 5, 2006, Cipriani, 42nd Street, 110 East 42nd Street, New York, NY 10017, American Friends of Rabin Medical Center (AFRMC) Gala Dinner. American Friends of Rabin Medical Center (AFRMC) held its annual gala, celebrating unique medical technologies at Rabin Medical Center. Hon. John Bolton, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, delivered the keynote speech.  CNN’S Larry King served as Master of Ceremonies.  AFRMC honored  Dina Recanati, renowned artist and noted philanthropist and gave an award of excellence to Joseph Stein, Fiddler on the Roof.  Entertainment was provided by Marvin Hamlisch, A Chorus Line, singer, Shawn King and The Jazz Museum in Harlem All-Stars Band.       The American Friends of Rabin Medical Center is committed to raising the funds and other necessary support to help Rabin Medical Center (RMC) remodel and refurbish its facilities with the most advanced medical equipment and technology.
