Recently, renowned wedding and event designer Harriette Rose Katz hosted some 60 friends and guests for a soiree in her beautifully-appointed Upper East Side home. According to Katz, she planned the celebration for the best reason of all: that is, no reason at all…just the love of a good party! "It’s a good feeling to entertain the people I care about. I love my home and felt that between the winter blues and current headlines, everyone in my circle of friends was primed for a good party.”
Among the industry-insiders seen sipping champagne and reveling in the lively conversation were Steve Rice, of the Plaza Hotel Catering; Herbert Rose, Bill Spinner and Heiko Kuenstle of The Pierre; Gary Merjian of the St. Regis; Mark Rose of Michelle Rago Ltd.; Marc Eliot of Floralia Decorators; Louis Rose of 583 Park; plus Ed Libby, DeJuan Stroud, Harris Lane, Geoffrey Bradfield, Sylvia Weinstock, Bentley Meeker, Maria McBride and R. Couri Hay.
The apartment’s elegant décor was further heightened by the sounds of a vintage jazz ensemble, which alternated with fiery flamenco guitarists and transformed a simple social evening into a true feast for the senses. For the Asian menu, Katz created a simple, yet refined table using petite capiz shell dishes filled with sushi and then garnished with shiso leaves. The bowls were presented across a weathered branch of a Manzanita tree. The menu also offered passed hors d-oeuvres, including bite-sized treats like Peking duck and negimaki served on delicate porcelain dim sum spoons.
