“Commit to WIN” Award at
Women In Need's Commit to WIN Annual Benefit Dinner at
The Pierre Hotel, 61st Street at Fifth Avenue, New York City, NY on Tuesday, April 28, 2009. The award was presented to her by designer
Tory Burch. The “Commit to WIN” Award is given annually to business leaders in recognition of their commitment to the New York City charity that helps homeless and at-risk women and their families get back on their feet. The dinner, which annually raises in excess of $1 million for Women In Need, was held at The Pierre hotel. “As someone who has long admired the work of
WIN, I am humbled by this honor and will continue to do what I can to deserve it,” said Ms. Fiori.
Tory Burch is the co-founder and creative director of
TORY BURCH, an attainable, luxury lifestyle brand defined by classic American sportswear with an eclectic sensibility. In 2008, she won the prestigious CFDA award for Accessories Designer of the Year and has won numerous other accolades since starting her business in 2004.
Women In Need, a non-profit organization founded in 1983, serves homeless and disadvantaged women and their children.
WIN helps homeless families through a comprehensive program, which includes shelter, supportive and permanent housing, job training and placement, domestic violence counseling and alcohol and substance abuse treatment. WIN’s children’s services include child care, after school programs, and Camp
WIN, a summer day camp. This year, WIN will help over 9,500 people move out of poverty and rebuild their lives.
Meredith Vieira, co-anchor of NBC News’ “Today” since September, 2006, served as the evening’s host. Prior to joining NBC, Ms. Vieira had been moderator of ABC’s “The View” since the show’s inception in 1997. She started her career at ABC in 1993 when she joined their news division as chief correspondent of “Turning Point,” which debuted in March, 1994 and where she earned her seventh Emmy © Award. Ms. Vieira is heavily involved with numerous philanthropic organizations in addition to WIN.
