NEW YORK-MARCH 11: CERVANTES INSTITUTE hosts book presentation “La nieta de la Maharaní” by MAHA AKHTAR on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at Instituto Cervantes New York 211 East 49th Street, New York, NY 10017. Click on the following link to Buy the Book. This book is part of Roca Publisher’s “Azares and Virtudes” collection; dedicated to the personal and artistic lives of its mains characters. This event, presented by the writer herself offered the opportunity to know all aspects related to the book. “La nieta de la Maharaní” relates the real history of Anita Delgado’s granddaughter –Malaga’s dancer who married Kapurthala’s maharaja- through several generations: her two grandmothers (Anita y Laila), her mother (Zahra) and the author. This extraordinary chronicle of these four women’s lives holds a profound and heartrending work of love, hope and cultural mestization that closes the circle of a story that begins and finishes in Spain one century later. “La nieta de la Maharaní”, has already been presented in Madrid, Málaga, Sevilla and Barcelona with an excellent critics welcome. “La nieta de la Maharaní”, was available at the event along with the signature of the writer. Furthermore, “La nieta de la Maharaní” will be available on stores on April 28th. The writer was introduced by Ms. Margaret Oliva, Chairman of the SPAIN-US Chamber of Commerce and interviewed live by Gemma Garcia, Spanish correpondent from TVE. Wines for the post interview reception were provided by BODEGAS MARTIN CODAX. About Maha Akhtar: Before becoming a flamenco dancer, this great journalist was the assistant of The Cure and became the right hand of America’s icon journalist Dan Rather, with whom she worked closely. Furthermore,Maha Akhtar took advantage of her stance with the journalist to write and produce her daily radio phonic commentary and to collaborate with Rather’s books. Nowadays, Maha Akhtar lives in three different cities: Nueva York, Sevilla and Nueva Delhi. She collaborates with Departures’ magazine of the American Express Publishing Group of magazines and with India’s The Times newspaper, where she publishes twice a week.
