2010 Springfling raised over $3 million at its 19th annual gala held Tuesday evening at the Plaza Hotel. This year’s event honored Dr. Achi Ludomirsky
, director of Pediatric Cardiology, and paid tribute to Dr. Eugenie Doyle, Professor Emerita of Pediatric Cardiology, for their extraordinary contributions to pioneering and advancing the field of pediatric cardiology NYU Langone Medical Center
. A portion of the $3 million raised at this year’s gala—including the leadership gifts from Judy and Jamie Dimon

), Jill and Alan Rappaport and Joey Pearson —will enable NYU Langone Medical Center
to create the Andrall E. Pearson Professorship in Pediatric Cardiology. Pearson was a longtime friend, board trustee and supporter of NYU Langone and remembered for his commitment and devotion to the institution. Founded in 1991 by a group of parents and pediatric physicians, KiDS is unique among pediatric philanthropic efforts in that it provides funds to inpatient and outpatient programs that serve children across NYU Langone Medical Center. Today, KiDS is helping establish a strong foundation for a new children’s hospital that will further advance NYU Langone’s tradition of excellence in children’s health, research and education. Gifts from KiDS help build and strengthen vital programs and services, including pediatric medical and surgical care, and including specialty areas like the Division of Pediatric Cardiology. , whose distinguished career as director of pediatric cardiology at NYU Langone spanned 1962 to 1993, set the stage for the next wave of advancement in her introduction of Dr. Achi Ludomirsky
. Dr. Ludomirsky, who arrived in 2008, is helping build a powerhouse program in pediatric cardiology, a crucial feature of NYU Langone’s plan to develop a children’s hospital. Helping to honor Dr. Ludomirsky at the podium were two teenage girls as well as the parents of two children, ages 9 months and 3 years, who expressed their gratitude for life-giving medical treatment by Dr. Ludomirsky and his team. Their heart-felt tributes, which culminated in applause and tears, portrayed a man whose talent as a clinician is matched only by the size of his heart and his compassion for his patients. , chair of KiDS of NYU, expressed the organization’s thanks to the almost 500 guests who packed the Plaza’s Grand Ballroom for the gala. She cited a sense of optimism about the future of pediatrics fueled by NYU Langone’s commitment to strengthen and add clinical programs in preparation for development of the new children’s hospital. “Physician recruitment, new facilities, advances in research—we are operating on all cylinders and with the kind of momentum that promises to bring NYU Langone to the top in children’s health over the next decade,” said Mrs. Tisch
