NEW YORK-SEPTEMBER 5: THE NEW YORK INTERNATIONAL SALSA CONGRESS DANCE & MUSIC FESTIVAL September 1st-6th Labor Day Weekend at the New York Hilton Hotel, 1335 Avenue Of the Americas ( 53rd Street on the 3rd FL.) New York City. NY. The New York International Salsa Congress Dance & Music Festival (NYISC), the world’s largest multicultural music and dance extravaganza organized by John “Choco” Knight, celebrated its 10th Anniversary with over 20,000 people from around the world last Thursday, September 2nd to Sunday, September 5th at the New York Hilton Hotel. Hosted by 97.9 LA MEGA’s J.I. Starr , this year was even bigger than last with a blow out performance by one of salsa’s oldest and most beloved bands "La Universidad de la Salsa" El Gran Combo De Puerto Rico. Special highlights from this year’s Congress included salsa, bachata, and hustle dance competitions, Survival Challenges, over the top performances and 60+ instructional workshops for all levels taught by world renowned dancers including the legendary King of Mambo Eddie Torres, Griselle Ponce and Melissa Rosado, Magna Gopal, Ismael Otero & Shani Talmor of Caribbean Soul, Talia Castro-Pozo & Lee Van Bradley, Tito &Tamara from Puerto Rico, Victor Burgos & Gaby Bernal from Mexico, Ahtoy WanPat-Borja, Daniel Enskat, and Joseph Rivera from Baila Society, Santo Rico and the Lorenz Latin Dance Studio and so many more outstanding groups. Each night featured dancing and a LIVE concert with Son Sublime, Conjunto Imagen, Son Boricua, La Japonesa Salsera Yoko and El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico as the grand finale. Each year the NYISC brings together people of all cultures, ages and backgrounds to participate in this multi-day celebration. Whether novice or a professional dancer, the NYISC attracts people from all walks of life to establish a sense of community, to gain exposure to different styles of dance and to achieve a higher level of knowledge and expression while sharing the true passion for Latin music and dancing. Originally held in the Poconos in 2001 with an estimate of 2,000 attendees, the NYISC has flourished to over 20,000 attendees and gained an abundance of media attention.
