NEW YORK-AUGUST 17: The Couture Council of The Museum at FIT - Summer Party on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at The Central Park Boathouse, East 72nd street and Park Drive North In Central Park, New York City, NY.
I am not so fashionable and not so elite but when I am invited to cover the so called fashionable elite on a pleasant summer evening in the heart of New York City's Central Park at the Boathouse and I am advised that they are serving Grey Goose in an assortment of fruity and delicious cocktails, it was hard to pass up. So, I could truly go on endlessly about how refreshing it is to be served Pineapple infused Grey Goose vodka cocktails, the type most are more familiar drinking poolside in some exotic locale, by three tall slender and athletic Grey Goose Girls attired in radiant Royal Blue dresses while I was comfortably ensconced among some of Manhattan's most stylish and beautiful ladies. On the eve of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week or the Super Bowl for fashion in New York City, I was casually attired in my usual summer gear Polo Ralph Lauren Khaki's and Green Polo Knit shirt with my Mobils by Mephisto shoes. Sure, it's a look, a look you probably picture more on Forrest Gump, The Family Guy or Jim Belushi in According to Jim than a Society Editor. So be it. I know, I could probably use a little style help from Patrick McDonald, Montgomery Frazier--"The Image Guru" or perhaps in this economy, maybe Stacy London. But I was comfortable and I was the one taking photos, not posing for them, and then drinking Grey Goose. Besides this kid from Brooklyn has no issue patronizing the business of another kid from Brooklyn who has literally attired an entire generation. Maybe I could have worn a blazer or Purple Label? C'est la vie.
On Wednesday, August 17th, The Couture Council of The Museum at FIT hosted their annual Summer Party at the Boathouse in Central Park on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, which kicked off their drive to sell tickets for their fall award luncheon honoring Valentino. As usual, many fashion designers took a break from their preparations for their fall collections to attend including Zac Posen, Thakoon Panichgul, Thom Browne, Hervé Pierre Braillard, Gilles Mendel Breitman, Carlos Campos, Maria Cornejo, Stan Herman, Simon Jacobs (Against Nature), Eric Javits, Gemma Khang, Tiffany Koury, Raul Melgoza (Luca Luca), Maggie Norris, Alexandra Lind Rose, Devon Scott, Steven Stolman, Zang Toi, Patricia Underwood, Kay Unger, and David Yurman.
The party’s host committee included: Anne Goldrach, Michelle Violy Harper, Yaz Hernandez, Chiu-Ti Jansen, Michèle Gerber Klein, Alexandra Lebenthal, Kamie Lightburn, Doris P. Meister, Liz Peek, Jean Shafiroff, Sarah G. Wolfe and Director of The Museum at FIT, Dr. Valerie Steele.

Liz Peek, the Founder and Chairman of the Couture Council, made a toast thanking her guests and urging everyone to buy tickets for the upcoming Valentino luncheon.
About The Couture Council Award Luncheon Honoring Valentino: The Couture Council of The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) will present Valentino with the 2011 Couture Council Award for Artistry of Fashion on September 7th at a benefit luncheon at David H. Koch Theater in Lincoln Center on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Luncheon chairs are Anne H. Bass, Charlotte Moss, Diane von Furstenberg and The Honorable Daphne Guinness, whose personal couture collection will be the subject of an exhibition opening at The Museum at FIT in September 2011. A number of Valentino’s masterpieces will be featured in this exhibition. Last year’s luncheon, which honored Karl Lagerfeld and was the first Couture Council Luncheon held at Lincoln Center, was attended by over 500 guests and raised over $600,000. Other past recipients of The Couture Council Awards are Dries Van Noten in 2009, Isabel Toledo in 2008, Alber Elbaz in 2007, and Ralph Rucci in 2006.
