NEW YORK-JUNE 1:
VOICES OF SEPTEMBER 11th Fourth Annual “Always Remember Gala” on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at
Pier Sixty,
Chelsea Piers, New York City, New York.
Hundreds of 9/11 survivors, friends and families of victims, as well as corporate representatives, gathered for the fourth annual “Always Remember Gala”. The event was hosted by the New Canaan-based
Voices of September 11th (VOICES), a prominent 9/11 organization providing support services and programs for all those impacted by the attacks on
September 11, 2001. Former New York
Mayor Rudy Giuliani was the keynote speaker and
New Canaan resident and NBC Nightly News Anchor and
Managing Editor Brian Williams served as the Master of Ceremony. There was also a special presentation by
Alice Greenwald Executive Vice President for Programs, Memorial Museum Director for the
National September 11 Memorial and Museum.
Former
New Jersey Governor Thomas Kean, chairman of the
9/11 Commission, was the honorary chairman of the event. The evening included a cocktail reception, silent auction and a special musical performance by a number of artists.
"The Tenth Anniversary is a milestone for our families and the country, and it’s also an important time to reflect, honor and recognize those special individuals who played an important role in our healing,” said
Mary Fetchet, Voices of September 11th founding director.
“It is especially meaningful to have Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Brian Williams and Governor Tom Kean participating in the VOICES event this year. These are three special individuals who played an instrumental role in helping our families, New Yorkers and our country find strength and resolve following the tragic events of 9/11.”
Proceeds from the gala will support
VOICES' ongoing efforts to provide support services for families, rescue workers and survivors, and to assist them through the emotional but healing process of creating a meaningful tribute to their loved ones.
VOICES launched the
9/11 Living Memorial Project in 2006 to chronicle the nearly 3,000 lives lost and document the inspirational stories of rescue workers and survivors at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and Shanksville, Pa. The Living Memorial, currently online at voicesofseptember11.org, has grown to be an extensive collection of more than 60,000 photographs, written materials and personal keepsakes that will continue to grow over time. The project will be a core component of the exhibits at the
National September 11 Memorial and Museum in New York City. or more, visit VOICES Web site
