NEW YORK, NY –SUNDAY, APRIL 13, 2008 –
Daniel Boulud personally hosted an intimate Sunday supper tonight. It was his
10th annual Savoring Citymeals-- a gourmet event of the season since its inception in 1998.
One hundred and fifty New Yorkers gathered at Daniel for this exquisite dinner raising $645,000 for
Citymeals-on-Wheels, a non-profit organization that provides home-delivered, nutritious meals to frail, homebound elderly in New York City. "Daniel has been a long-time supporter of
Citymeals-on-Wheels and his generosity has contributed to the well-being of thousands of elderly New Yorkers we help feed year after year," said
Marcia Stein, Executive Director of
Citymeals-on-Wheels. "Tonight’s event will go far in helping to sustain our invisible and most vulnerable neighbors." The celebration opened with a cocktail and tasting reception featuring lavish hors d’oeuvres and a silent auction of rare, large format wines and luxurious table top and culinary items. The evening then unfolded with an unparalleled culinary experience. From the Butter Poached Lobster to the Moroccan Spiced Squab and the Trio of Spring Lamb, the sumptuous menu was prepared personally by
Daniel Boulud and his chefs and pastry chefs from Daniel, Café Boulud, DB Bistro Moderne, and the new
Bar Boulud. The gala dinner was accompanied by wines from Au Bon Climat, Taittinger and Hirsch Vineyards.
"Everyday my staff and I prepare wonderful meals for quite privileged New Yorkers," said Boulud. "Working with Citymeals is a very rewarding way for us to contribute to much less fortunate New Yorkers. This city has embraced me with such generosity and support, this is one of the ways I can show my gratitude." The live
"Take a Chef Home" auction included four one-of-a-kind dinners to be prepared in private homes by the award-winning talents of Boulud’s New York City restaurants, each promising to whip up a tour-de-force tasting menu in the recipient’s kitchens.
Bar Boulud’s Executive Chef
Damian Sansonetti and Charcutier
Sylvain Gasdon;
Olivier Muller, Executive Chef at
DB Bistro Moderne;
Gavin Kaysen, Executive Chef at
Café Boulud; and
Jean François Bruel, Executive Chef at
Daniel were the star attractions of these spectacular auction packages. Each of the restaurants’ sommeliers, along with Chef Boulud’s renowned Wine Director Daniel Johnnes, provided expert wine pairings to complete the auction lots. Impeccable white glove table service for these at home dinners will be supplied by Boulud’s Feast & Fêtes Catering. The guest auctioneer was none other than
Gail Simmons of
Bravo TV’s "Top Chef." The gala was the culmination of a weekend’s worth of Citymeals events at
Daniel, including a stunning eight course / 20 wine luncheon co-hosted by
Daniel Boulud and wine guru, Robert Parker. Official sponsors of
Citymeals-on-Wheels:
American Airlines, FIJI Water, MasterCard and Nespresso. One hundred percent of the evening’s proceeds will directly support the preparation and delivery of meals to the elderly.
