Cancer Support Community Spring Celebration 2013

NEW YORK - APRIL 25: Cancer Support Community Spring Celebration 2013 on Thursday, April 25, 2013 The Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers, Hudson River at 23rd Street, New York City, NY. On April 25th the Cancer Support Community hosted its Spring Celebration in the beautiful Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers. This annual event brought together hundreds of people who are tireless supporters of the CSC mission to ensure that all people impacted by cancer are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action and sustained by community. This year’s event was a meaningful blend of individuals and corporations who have dedicated personal time, treasure and talent to transform the experience of cancer. Jack Ford, CBS News Anchor and Legal Analyst was Master of Ceremonies and, as an honorary member of the CSC Family, brought the true meaning of the organization to life as he recognized honorees for their contributions to the field of cancer. The Good Morning America team was recognized with the Founders Award for Support for their relentless support of Robin Roberts throughout her cancer journey. Dhani Jones, former NFL Player and Founder of Bow Tie Cause received the Founders Award for Spirit and Annie Parker received the Founders Award for Vision for her relentless pursuit of the heredity risk for developing cancer; a story that became the inspiration behind the movie Decoding Annie Parker. Other important honorees of the evening included Bristol-Myers Squibb Oncology (Founders Award for Innovation) and the Founding Board of CSC’s Young Leadership Council (Founders Award for Leadership). The program began and ended with a very moving performance by Laura Benanti, Tony Award winner and star of NBC’s Go On. Guests included patients, friends, families, health care professionals and supporters of the organization. The passion for CSC by the guests and honorees of this evening was the highlight. The event raised important resources that will be used for direct patient and family services, research on the social and emotional aspects of cancer and public policy changes to ensure the emotional support services are a part of routine cancer care. So that no one faces cancer alone.
